Why One Size Doesn’t Fit All

Many mass-market ventilation kits — the kind sold as a single “whole-home” box — are designed to fit as many houses as possible. In reality, every building behaves differently. Effective ventilation depends on airflow paths, insulation, and moisture balance — not a plug-and-play setup.

At Holmes Services, we assess your environment first, then design and install a balanced system that actually solves the problem — delivering dry, clean, and comfortable air year-round.

  • Reduce condensation and dampness
  • Improve indoor air quality
  • Balance humidity for consistent comfort
  • Lower mould, dust, and allergy triggers

Our Design & Installation Process

  1. Assessment — We inspect airflow paths, moisture, and insulation.
  2. System Design — Tailored plan ensuring balanced air pressure and comfort.
  3. Installation — Clean, compliant, and tidy setup using quality components.
  4. After-Care — Filter maintenance and periodic servicing for ongoing performance.

Maintenance & Upgrades

Clean filters and proper airflow keep your system efficient. We service and upgrade existing HRV, positive-pressure, or energy-recovery units — even those we didn’t install.

  • Filter cleaning or replacement
  • Airflow testing and balancing
  • Moisture and humidity control checks
  • System upgrades and replacements

Our ongoing service ensures your system continues to deliver dry, healthy air year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as HRV or DVS?

No — we’re not tied to any brand or boxed system. HRV, DVS, SmartVent and similar systems are examples of pre-configured units that work well in some homes, but not all. We assess each property first, then design a balanced system that suits its layout, airflow, and insulation.

Can home ventilation really help with asthma?

Yes. Research in New Zealand has shown that improving ventilation and indoor air quality reduces asthma symptoms by lowering dampness, mould, and airborne irritants. We design systems that replace stale, humid air with fresh, filtered air.

Will ventilation make my home colder in winter?

No. Modern energy-recovery and balanced-pressure systems maintain warmth by recovering heat from outgoing air while bringing in fresh air. You get better air quality without losing comfort.

Can you retrofit ventilation into existing homes?

Yes. Most homes can be fitted with a discrete, ducted ventilation system using ceiling or roof space. We’ll confirm what’s possible during a site visit and design accordingly.

5.0

“Our ironing workroom used to be hot, stuffy, and unhealthy on busy days. After Holmes Services fitted proper ventilation, the space is breathable and comfortable. The team lasts longer on the irons, and the air feels fresh instead of heavy.”
